Paper Flowers 1959
Plot Synopsis
India's first-ever film in Cinemascope is also Dutt's final work as a director. At once a love story and a passionate film about film-making, this semi-autobiographical tale recounts the rise and fall of a famed film-maker. Lamenting how commercialism trumps over creativity, Suresh (Dutt), a married man, falls for the actress playing in his adaptation of Devdas. But the romance threatens to destroy his family, and when she disappears, he falls into despair. Dutt's own eventual demise mirrors many elements within this classic.
